July 2008

I was really nervous when I stepped up to my table.  I sat down and started looking around to get a feel for how much experience these guys had.  But for some reason I just assumed everyone was a good player at first, because it was a 10k buy in so you wouldn’t think there would be fish tossing money away….. but there were plenty.  Actually, after the 10 hour session I would say that there was 2 professional players, 2 guys that have only played home games, and the other 4 guys were decent but not a huge threat.  I wish I knew this earlier because I really think I played rather poorly in the first 2 hours of the tournament.  I played extremely tight and lost a few pots that I should have taken down.  Anyways this is how it went down…

So the main event got off to a rough start for me today when I knocked down to 12k really quick after losing just about every pot.  I finally picked up pocket queens, but ended up folding them pre-flop after someone 4 bet me, which left me a 8800(i think it was a good fold he definately had ak, kk ,or aa and Ionly had 2k in the pot).  Eventually I ended up doubling up with the first hand listed below.  After this my table just shut down and we were seeing like 5 flops per hour.  So I stole about 10k in blinds and now im at about 29.2 going into Wednesday.

Here are to notable hands which I couldn’t really understand

blinds 150/300 my stack ~10000

villian opens to 1100

I raise to 3000  with KK  on button

villian calls 1900

flop kj4

Villian checks

I bet 3000

Villain raises to 6000

I go all in for my last 1000… and accidentally reveal my cards before he makes the call… and he folds aq face up when he sees my kings….  This means the pot was at 20k.. so he was getting laid 20-1 to call..  he was 13.7% to win this hand… So me making a mistake paid off big time here and I was really stoked about it, because my tournament was never on the line.

This is a hand I witnessed…

Old guy raises to 400 (been really loose raising ever hand erratic amounts )

BB Reraises to 1000 (tightest player at table)

Old guy calls

Flop 789

BB check

Old guy 600

BB call

Turn 6

BB check

Old guy 500

BB calls

River 8

BB bet 2k

Old guy instantly reraises to 6k

BB instajams* for his last  14k

Old guy snap calls and flips slams down k10 as if it were the nuts

BB shows 99

Awesome…

*instajam-If this were a word I’m pretty sure this is how it would look in text form.

So after two weeks of grinding at home due to my failed attempt at conquering Vegas, I’m back and ready to play in the main event. So yesterday I got a late start and ended up getting to the Rio to register at 5:30 PM, which could be bad because Sunday starting day is closing up fast. I met up with one of my brothers friends who loaned me the 10k for the entry. So after waiting in a 15 minute line I get up to the cashier and to my delight he notified me that there was 1 seat left available for Sunday. I really didn’t want to play Friday because 4th of July nor my recovery day on Saturday. I started filling out some paper work until I got distracted when he stopped counting my money at 9k, I was a 100o short. The man couldn’t reserve my seat so I had to run all the way around the Rio up the the 13th floor and back to pick up the extra cash. Upon my re entrance into the cashier, the gentleman next to me kindly asks for the final Sunday seat… and my heart drops… Anyways, I sat there for what seemed to be forever until I talked to the tournament director, which let me into the Sunday starting day! So now that the cash is in… I am officially in the Main Event! Ill try to post between and after sessions with updates.
