Sometimes I’m such an idiot. On three separate occasions today I had either a set or two pair going to the river.. and the draw card came that I thought my opponent had. These pots were all of good size so I didn’t want to just give them up because I can’t just always assume the player has the hand I put him on. So I figured the cheapest way to get out of the hand would be to bet like 25% of the pot into the player and fold to a raise. So all three times that I did this I got raised, and believe it or not I called. I kept convincing myself that the other player was bluffing me because I was betting so small and he saw it as an opportunity to steal the pot. I was also looking at the size of the pot and I was like whats another $50-100 bucks. But I really need to learn. These online players don’t have these moves in their repertoire. In the past week I have called a lot of raises on the river, and just about every time the other player has had the nuts. Note: im calling with good hands such as top 2, sets and so on. I know all I can beat here on the river is a straight up bluff because these guys aren’t good enough to value raise on the river with good hands.. just the nuts. Ill probably now convince myself that people are min raising me on the river because they read my blog and think I’m gonna fold.. so ill probably still call… so don’t try it.

After taking a couple months off writing this blog I need to get back into it.  The last couple months I have been all over the United State traveling and what not.  I have got back in to the full swing of playing poker this last month and I have been playing better then ever.  I have really been listening a lot to my gut and trying to control my emotions during my sessions.  One of my biggest problems in January and February was that if I took a bad beat or made a bad play I would get so frustrated I would just stop playing for the day, which is weird because before that I could play through sessions no matter how good or bad it was going.  But after my travels and time off poker (and diminishing of my bankroll), I have managed to come back better then ever.  I feel very confident with my play and am willing to put whatever hours I can.  Anyways, just letting everyone know the blog is back and I will be posting more often.

I had a really funny hand yesterday, actually it put me on complete tilt but I thought I would share..

2/4 NL

sb (me) $600

bb(noob) $225

Folds to me I raise to 12 with 45h

BB calls

flop (2h,3h,qs)

I bet 16

BB raise to 32

I reraise to 130

BB call

Turn 10d

I go all in for his last like 90 or so

He calls with kj off and holds

Nothing really to say here… I have no idea what happened here. But one of the better calls Ive ever seen.   And when asked why he calls, he replies “Pot odds”.
